Zichy Anna "Méthode Traditionelle" champagne 2020 750ml

Their champagne - which won a gold medal at the Winelovers Wine Awards wine competition in 2023 - was made using the traditional Champagne Méthode Traditionelle process, based on furmint from their Mádi vineyards, mixed with muscat.

Each bottle is full of depth and tradition. The characteristic variety of the terroir, Furmint, gives structure and freshness, Muskotály gives elegance and a rich fruity taste. The unique composition of the terroir's volcanic rocks lends our champagne a mineral finish characteristic of Tokaj.

About the vintage
For now, it is difficult to judge the vintage, where it was harvested early and the heavy summer rains did not damage the crop, even excellent wines can be produced. In general, however, the rainy autumn did not facilitate an optimal harvest.

Muscat Blanc
World type, typically with grape, grape flower, more mature spicy, coriander and raisin aromas. Of Italian or Greek origin, it is known by its official French name as muscat blanc à petits grains (roughly "small-grained white muscat"). In Hungary, its total area is 800 ha, mainly found in Tokaj (it is not the same as the ottonel muscat that is popular in our other regions, in fact it is only a distant relative).

Furmint
It produces full-bodied, fiery, high-acid and long-lasting wines, typically with apple-pear-quince aromas. After several theories that have been disproved, in the light of genetic research, it can be stated that Tokaj-Hegyalja is the homeland of the breed. Its production area in Hungary is about 4,000 ha in total.

About the winery:
​The founder of the Tokaji Zichy Vineyard, Count Zichy Aladár, bought the vineyards in Hegyalja from the Waldbott family. On the nearly 30-hectare estate, we mainly grow furmin, and to a lesser extent muscat and linden grape varieties. The estate's plantations are located in the borders of Mád, Szegi, Tarcal and Sárospatak.

After the renovation and modernization of the plantations, we started working with wine in 2015.

Our first commercially available product is Zichy Anna champagne made from the 2019 vintage.
