Gose is a traditional German salty-sour beer. The name of the type was given by the river Gose in Germany, because the salt and mineral content of the river was very high thanks to the salt mines in the area, so the beer brewed from it became salty, which gave it its uniqueness. The gose comes from Goslar in Germany. It is usually brewed with at least 50% of the grain being malted wheat.
Dominant flavors of gose beer include lemony sourness, herbal character, and a strong salty taste, either from the local water sources or from added salt. Gose beers typically do not have a prominent hoppy bitterness, flavor or aroma. Beers typically have a moderate alcohol content of 4-5%. It obtains its characteristic sourness through inoculation with lactobacillus bacteria.
