MENAKAO is a brand born in Madagascar that uses a variant of criollo cocoa beans grown in the Sambirano Valley. Bean to bar chocolates are also made locally, made from local ingredients in virtually every element.
The packaging shows a portrait of an antanosy woman. The Antanosy ethnic group (the “island people”) live in an area bordered by mountains, desert and the Indian Ocean, making them not only excellent sailors and fishermen, but also their strengths in farming. Centuries of contact with pirates and sailors have left a deep imprint on their history.
