Distillery Master Lesley Gracie’s trips to Venezuela’s Amazon rainforest in 2013 inspired this edition when he spent three weeks with a local tribe to learn about the rare plants and fruits found in this part of the world. It is based on the original Hendrick gin recipe, with specific cucumber and rose botanical ingredients, the Amazon flora.
Hendrick’s is one of the most popular gin brands in the world, in a really special bottle, perhaps most reminiscent of a medicine bottle. William Grant & Sons, which also publishes Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder and Grants, produces it at the Girvan Distillery. At first, while small quantities were produced, even real cucumbers and Bulgarian roses were used to flavor them (today, cucumbers are replaced with aroma).
As a gin tonic or on its own, it’s worth consuming a few slices of cucumber.
