The label of Diplomatico rums features Don Juancho, a local nobleman, or mantano, who traveled extensively in the Caribbean at the end of the 19th century and passionately collected various spirits. He was known by the locals as a smooth person with a very pleasant style, and he often offered his friends from the "Ambassador's Reserve". Diplomatico thus follows the personality of Don Juancho both in name and in character.
Diplomatico Mantuan was created from rums aged 2-8 years. This makes it quite ripe and smooth, it can be used wonderfully in cocktails, but it can also be drunk on its own. Its youngest component can be around 2-3 years old, since - quite uniquely - in Venezuela, rum must be aged in barrels for at least two years before it can be released. It is aged in American white oak, used bourbon, and used single malt barrels.
