Don Papa MassKara rum enriches the flavors of the original Don Papa with special local ingredients, creating a real specialty. The drink is based on honey from the Kanlaon forest on the island of Negros, Filipino citrus, Calamondin, and Siling Labuyo chili, which give the rum a unique flavor profile. In its aroma, the sweet aromas are mixed with citrus notes, while the taste is soft and fruity, creating a perfect balance between citrus and sweetness.
MassKara rum has a deep amber color and its special spicy aftertaste provides a long-lasting taste experience. The drink is aged for 7 years in small American oak barrels, which further enriches its taste. The name MassKara was inspired by the annual MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, which is held in the “City of Smiles”. This festival celebrates local culture and fun, which Don Papa MassKara rum carries with its rich and vibrant flavors infused with honey and chili.
Don Papa rum is distilled in the Philippines, on the western side of the island of Negros, which is famous for growing the best quality sugar cane in the world. The distillery was founded in 2012 by Stephen Carroll, the former executive of Rémy Cointreau. It was named after Dionisio Magbuelas, or "Papa Isio", who played a significant role in the Philippine revolution against Spanish rule at the end of the 19th century.
Combining his experience in the liquor trade with the excellent qualities of the island of Negros, Carroll's goal was to create a premium quality rum that embodies the warmth, passion and perseverance of the people of the Philippines.
