In 1999, two students from Hamburg were backpacking in Europe and, as usual, they were brainstorming what kind of business they should start. Among other things, there was also the idea of starting a cafe and a hostel, but the two friends ended up with something completely different. They decided to establish their own cola brand and break into the market of Coca-Cola and Pepsi, which are among the most successful companies in the world. The two students had no recipe, no market experience and no more than a few thousand euros, but in twenty years they still built one of Germany's largest soft drink companies, Fritz-Cola. Cola, sold exclusively in small bottles, became the staple product of Central European new-wave nightclubs and craft cafes.
