Chinotto is a type of carbonated soft drink made from the juice of the orange myrtle fruit (Citrus myrtifolia). The dark color of the drink is reminiscent of Coca-Cola, but it has a bitter-sweet taste with a fresh aftertaste. It does not contain alcohol, but the taste is reminiscent of bitterness.
Chinotto is a short tree that produces small oranges with a characteristic bitter taste. Its fruits are initially yellow and turn orange as they ripen. It originates from China, from where it was imported to Italy, where it has excellent climatic conditions. In ancient times, its drink was known as a dark-colored, bitter-tasting version of orange juice, and was considered a refreshing delicacy.
Chinotto is ideal as an aperitif or as a base for summer cocktails, to which it adds a refreshing and perfect taste.
