The adventurer
Originally called HP22B, the Carolina Reaper is a hybrid obtained by crossing two very hot chili peppers: Habanero Red and Pakistani Naga Morich. The first plants were grown in South Carolina thanks to the intuition of farmer Ed Currie, who is a lover of spices and all highly spicy foods. During the ripening stage, it changes from green to orange until it very slowly reaches a bright scarlet color. It has held the record for the world's hottest chili pepper since 2013, with an average of 1,641,183 SHU, but peaks reaching 2,200,000 SHU.
In recent years, the use of this fruit in the kitchens of top chefs has increased significantly. It is no coincidence that today it is considered the most popular and sought-after chili pepper by lovers of the genre.
The Carolina Reaper is the adventurous, hottest chili pepper in the world, a lover of risks and strong feelings. Its deep red, fruity, almost sweet taste, reminiscent of cinnamon and chocolate, expresses its adventurous spirit in its record-breaking spiciness.
